POSITION DESCRIPTION

NEUROPHYSIOLOGY FELLOW
Applications are sought for a Fellow in Neurophysiology in the Department of Neurophysiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The Royal Melbourne Hospital Neurosciences Program offers a full range of inpatients and outpatient services, including Neurophysiology.
The Neurophysiology Department performs standard nerve conduction studies, standard and complex EMG including Quantitative EMG and Single Fibre EMG, a full range of evoked potential studies, and quantitative sensory testing in addition to Neurovestibular testing, standard EEG, long term Video EEG monitoring and intracranial EEG recordings.
Medical staff include two Neurophysiologists, Epileptologists and Neuro-ophthalmologist, all of whom are active members of the Department of Neurology. The Department also includes four medical scientists and interacts with research personnel in the Epilepsy and MS/Neuroimmunology programs.
Clinical
The fellow will participate in the daily workings of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neurophysiology Department, and will develop experience and competence in standard and more complex techniques. These will include:
· Nerve conduction studies/ EMG
· Specialised EMG techniques
· Vestibular function studies
· Performance and reporting of VEP, BAERs, SEP, QST
· Observation of Intraoperative EP monitoring.
· EEG and video-EEG monitoring reporting
· Participation in Video-EEG review meetings
· Participation in weekly registrar teaching sessions.
· Presentations at Department and Hospital Meetings
· Attendance at Neuromuscular OP clinic, Epilepsy Clinic and/or General Neurology Clinic.
All work will be under the direct supervision of Dr Lynnette Kiers (Director), Dr Timothy Day, Dr Owen White and Associate Professor Terence O'Brien who are the Consultant Neurologists involved with RMH Neurophysiology.
Education
The fellow would also be involved in all the educational activities of the Department of Neurology and Department of Medicine which include:
· Weekly joint clinical meetings with the Departments of Neurology and Radiology
· Weekly neuroradiology meetings
· Fortnightly neuropathology meetings
· Fortnightly neuroscience seminars
· Weekly medical research seminars (Department of Medicine)
Research
The fellow will complete at least one significant research project in the field of clinical neurophysiology.
