Hospital Information

430 bed University teaching hospital in Southern Adelaide. Integrated campus with Flinders University. Strong integration with basic Neuroscience at the Centre for Neuroscience, Flinders University.

Department Beds :
16 general Neurology and Stroke beds including one epilepsy monitoring bed

Department Clinics
General Neurology, TIA, Multiple Sclerosis, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, First Seizure Clinic, Motor Neuron Disease Clinic

Department Specialty Clinics
Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, MND

Department Meetings
1 Neurology Grand round per week.
Combined Neurology and Stroke Radiology round weekly.
Journal Club fortnightly.
Long Term Epilepsy Monitoring Meeting Weekly.

Junior Staff Positions In Neurology
2 Neurology residents

Trainee Responsibilities
Ward Registrar (4/12 rotation)
Supervise Neurology Ward
Co-ordination of weekly Neurology round
Attend minimum of 2 ward rounds per week
On Call responsibilities including for stroke thrombolysis
Attendance at weekly EMG clinics and EEG sessions
Attendance at 2 outpatient clinics per week
Triaging of OPD referrals

Consult Registrar (4/12 rotation)
Ward consultations
Dealing with external referrals
On Call responsibilities including for stroke thrombolysis
Attendance at weekly EMG clinics and EEG sessions
Attendance at 2 outpatient clinics per week
Triaging of OPD referrals

Stroke Registrar (4/12 rotation)
Supervise Stroke Ward
Co-ordination of acute stroke assessments alternate weekly

Philosophy Of Training
Neurology Training at Flinders provides a broad, well supported environment for a core year of advanced training. In addition to exposure to all facets of acute inpatient and ambulatory general neurology, the trainee receives exposure in most of the principal neurology subspecialties and in neurophysiology.
