Core Position Descriptions
There is a two core training position at the LMH. The successful applicants will receive broad exposure and training across the whole spectrum of acute and ambulatory neurology and cerebrovascular disease.

The LMH Stroke Unit offers a thrombolysis service with multimodal imaging. There are clear transfer pathways to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for endovascular therapy. The Unit lacks only inpatient video-EEG monitoring. These services are readily available through our strong links to the RAH, as are neurosurgical services.

The trainee will rotate through all subspecialty clinics - movement disorders, stroke, neuroimmunology and epilepsy clinics, which also service some general neurology referrals. The trainee will receive excellent tuition in neurophysiology, with weekly sessions in both EMG/NCS (one on one with a consultant) and EEG. There is scope to undertake extra NCS clinics on a weekly basis.

The trainee will benefit from our strong links with neurorehabilitation services through Modbury hospital for both acute stroke and neurology.

Hospital Information

The Lyell McEwin is a 400 bed teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Adelaide and the Tertiary hospital for the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN). It has a busy Emergency department and serves people from a broad demographic range. It has a large ICU and is a Level Three training Institution for the RACP.

Department Meetings
Weekly discharge summary and radiology review meetings are held weekly, preceded by a clinical meeting where an interesting or challenging case is presented.

Trainees are to attend the weekly Neuroradiology and clinical meeting as well as the monthly neuropathology sessions at the RAH.

Junior Staff Positions In Neurology
Intern, General Trainee, Basic Physician Trainee X 2, Advanced traineee X 2

Trainee Responsibilities
The trainees are responsible for the oversight of the neurology/stroke ward, and directing consults and Emergency department referrals appropriately. The trainee carries the 'code stroke' phone. Simple referrals will be directed to the BPT and more complex cases seen by the advanced trainee. The trainee is expected to do two clinics and one neurophysiology clinic each week.

Selection will be based on merit, as demonstrated in the applicant's CV, interview and referee reports. via the ANZAN Match process

Philosophy Of Training
The LMH Neurology Advanced trainee will be receive as broad as possible an exposure to Neurology in all its multiple facets, in a supportive but rigorous environment. There is a particular emphasis on the honing of clinical diagnostic skills and precision in EMG/NCS.

Neurology Training In State
Three core positions at the merged RAH/QEH, as well as three at FMC. There are also stroke fellow and neurophysiology fellow positions at the RAH/QEH.
