Core Position Descriptions
1) Care of patients admitted under the neurologists of his/her team at Nepean. There is a BPT attached to the team so the ATs role is supervisory, however, all sick patients are reviewed by AT daily.

2) The AT is the leader of thrombolysis call service for acute ischaemic stroke treatment.

3) Providing consultation services to other departments (under supervision).

4) Presenting the Neurology component of the Clinical Neurosciences meeting.

5)Attending outpatients clinics. These include Epilepsy, Clinical Neurophysiology, Rapid Access and two General Neurology clinics. The hospital has a Memory Clinic run by the Geriatric service and the AT can choose to attend a memory clinic every month if he/she has a special interest in Cognition.

6) Attending EEG training sessions and reading EEG under supervision of our Epileptologists.

7) Attending weekly attend neuroradiology & monthly neuropathology meetings.

8) After-hours on call requirement includes one in three weekends. During the weekend on-call the AT will have a back-up consultant available for advice.

9) Involvement in BPT, JMO and medical student teaching.

10) Playing an important role in departmental administration.

NB: There is one core position for Advanced Training at Nepean Hospital although this number is expected to increase in the near future. The sole position allows the AT to have undiluted exposure to all available opportunities, especially neurophysiology.

Hospital Information

Nepean hospital is an approximately 550 bed teaching hospital for the University of Sydney. It lies at Penrith. The Hospital serves the population of the western sector of the Sydney West Area Health Service and takes referrals from the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas.

The hospital has seven Neurologists with expertise in Epilepsy, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurophysiology, Neuromuscular and Cognition.

The Neurology Unit services 14 inpatient beds, however, we usually over-reach our capacity. The Neurology ward (N2F) is shared with Gastroenterology. The department works closely with the Neurosurgery Unit at Nepean Hospital and the weekly Neurosciences and Neuroradiology meetings are attended by the Neurosurgeons as well.

In addition to the medical staff, the department houses two full time Neurophysiology Technical Officers, one Stroke CNC and a Departmental Secretary.

Junior Staff Positions In Neurology
There are two Neurology teams. Each team comprises a BPT and a JMO. The AT is attached to each team for six months so that there is an opportunity for training under supervision of all neurologists.

Other Information
The department will fund the RITE examination fee and Registration fee for ANZAN ASM.
