Core Position Descriptions
Core position covers all aspects of general neurology with subspecialty clinics in cognition and memory, epilepsy, neuro-immunology and multiple sclerosis, stroke and TIA. The trainee is responsible for inpatient care of patients in the stroke unit and neurology ward. There are regular scheduled opportunities for education, EMG and EEG teaching. Part-time applicants willing to job-share are encouraged.

Elective Position Descriptions
The Mater Hospital works with the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital to provide the Queensland Comprehensive Epilepsy Program.

The Mater epilepsy unit comprises three epileptologists, led by Prof Aileen McGonigal. Facilities include 3 video-EEG monitoring beds for patients undergoing workup for epilepsy surgery and an active outpatient and ambulatory EEG service. The fellow will receive training in outpatient and inpatient care of adult epilepsy patients, with a specific focus on the stereoEEG methodology. The Fellow will also develop expertise in EEG and video-EEG interpretation and will be exposed to advanced imaging methods.

In addition to the weekly epilepsy clinical meeting, the Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in the weekly neurology clinical meeting, journal club, neuroradiology meeting and medical grand rounds as well as attendance at Brain School. The Fellow is encouraged to attend relevant national and international meetings e.g. Epilepsy Society of Australia, ANZAN.

The Fellow is expected to undertake a research project and academic staff within the program are affiliated with The University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.

The neurosurgery unit is the largest in Queensland. The epilepsy unit was the second site to introduce stereoEEG methodology in Australia. Based in South Brisbane adjacent to the South Bank cultural and arts complex.
