Elective Position Descriptions
A structured Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis is available at the Brain & Mind Research Institute, University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. RPAH and BMRI have an established clinical and research MS Programme and are recognised leaders in the field. Participation in the multiple sclerosis and neuro-immunology clinics at the BMRI and RPAH forms the core clinical component of the structures Fellowship, which is aimed at Neurology advanced trainees who wish to develop both clinical and research expertise in the field of neuroimmunology/multiple sclerosis. Hospital Information

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) The hospital is located in Camperdown, Sydney and is the original teaching hospital of the University of Sydney, to which it is attached. With Concord it provides the Eastern Division of Sydney South West Area Health Service. RPAH comprises 800 beds with all the major medical, surgical and obstetric disciplines represented. Together with its associated research institutes RPAH represents one of the national centres of excellence in clinical medicine and research.

Ten general neurology beds, Eight stroke beds, Two video-EEG telemetry beds for patients with epilepsy

Department Specialty Clinics

Department Meetings
Weekly neurology grand rounds and neuroradiology meetings, monthly neuropathology, hospital grand rounds, monthly quality control meeting, monthly stroke meeting. The weekly seminars are alternated with the neuropathology and QA meetings.

Trainee Responsibilities
There is a structured program of weekly lectures by experts in the field covering aspects of clinical neurology.

Selection Criteria
(3) Advanced Trainees Position
These are approved Core Training positions for Advanced Training in Neurology
(1) MS Fellow - elective position to gain experience in MS and autoimmune disorders
(4) Ad-hoc Specialty Fellowships
These are elective position which provide the opportunity to gain experience in general neurology and in the specialty area.

Philosophy Of Training
This is a strong clinical department with wide expertise in subspecialty: Neurology the emphasis is on the acquisition of clinical skills and experience through inpatient and outpatient neurology. Advanced trainees are encouraged to become involved in clinical research projects and to present their work at national meetings. There are excellent opportunities for trainees to do higher degrees within the Department.
